About Cheq

Cheq UPI is a digital wallet designed specifically for foreign nationals and NRIs/OCIs traveling or residing in India, enabling secure transactions at over 55 million registered merchants across the country.

Both foreign nationals and NRIs/OCIs can use Cheq UPI. NRIs with a foreign passport are categorized as foreign nationals, while those with an Indian passport have access to a different wallet type.

Foreign nationals from these countries are not allowed: Afghanistan, Central African Republic (CAR), Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan (North), North Korea, Yemen, Myanmar, Iran and Pakistan

The service is free for all nationalities except Russian citizens, who are charged a convenience fee of INR 999.

App Download & Installation

The app is available for both Android and iOS devices. Visit your respective app store, search for "Cheq UPI," and proceed to install/download the app.

Yes, the Cheq UPI app is free to download.

Start by downloading the app, verifying your SIM, filling in your passport details, and completing the physical verification process. Your account will be active post-verification.

For the KYC, documents listed below are required.

Foreign Passport Holders

  • Foreign Passport
  • Indian e-Visa / OCI Card (Front & Back page)
  • Immigration Stamp
  • Arrival Stamp

NRIs

  • Indian Passport (Front & Back)
  • Driver's Licence / Any Residence Proof
  • Arrival Stamp

The process is generally quick, but the duration can vary based on the accuracy of provided information and the time taken for in-person verification.

Input your mobile number in the app to receive an OTP via SMS, WhatsApp, or email. Enter this OTP in the app to complete verification.

Preferably, yes, especially at the time of account creation. Ensuring your international SIM is active during this period is crucial for a smooth verification process.

Yes, Cheq UPI works with both. Ensure the SIM you registered with (be it international or Indian) is active during the SIM verification process. Post-verification, it does not matter much which SIM is active.

In-person verification can be completed in select cities across India, either by visiting a branch or booking an agent through the app. Present your original documents during verification.

Foreign Wallet: Original Passport, Valid visa, Immigration stamp on the passport with the date of entry into India.

NRI Wallet (Indian Passport Holders): Original Passport, Foreign country's driving license or any other document, and Arrival stamp on the passport.

After account verification, add money using international bank-issued credit/debit cards or net banking. Cash deposits are accepted at branches. Note that there is an INR 5,000 limit on adding money for the first 24 hours.

The payment gateway applies a charge of ~3.5% (2.95% fee plus taxes) on the total amount added, which is directly billed to the user. Currency conversion is handled by the user's bank, with no additional charges from Cheq UPI.

Make payments at registered merchants using scan & pay on QR codes or by sending money to the merchant's UPI ID. No additional transaction fee is charged.

Yes, the following limits apply to various payment out functions such as Scan & Pay, Pay to Contacts, Withdraw, Collect, and Intent. Users are encouraged to plan their transactions within these specified limits to ensure a seamless payment experience.

For Foreign Tourist Users

  • Limits during cooling period: INR 50,000 for the first 24 hours for Android users, and INR 50,000 for the first 72 hours for iOS users
  • Limits during cooling period: Maximum of 5 transactions for the first 24 hours, for both Android & iOS
  • Post cooling period limits: INR 1,00,000 per transaction; maximum of 25 transactions in a 24-hour rolling window; INR 1,00,000 per day transaction limit

For Indian Users

  • Limits during cooling period: INR 5,000 for the first 24 hours for Android users, and INR 5,000 for the first 72 hours for iOS users
  • Limits during cooling period: Maximum of 5 transactions for the first 24 hours, for both Android & iOS
  • Post cooling period limits: INR 1,00,000 per transaction; maximum of 20 transactions in a 24-hour rolling window; INR 1,00,000 per day transaction limit
  • P2P transactions are allowed only for Indian nationals (Domestic UPI users)

Users are advised to adhere to these limits when adding money to their wallet.

Add Money (Monthly Limit)

  • Monthly Transaction Volume: Limited to INR 5,00,000 in a calendar month

Add Money (Same Amount Limit)

  • Frequency for Adding the Same Amount: Only 1 transaction allowed every 5 minutes

Unfortunately, Cheq UPI doesn't support recurring payments such as YouTube, Spotify, ChatGPT, Apple Pay, or any subscription-based payments. Since these platforms require recurring debits on a monthly basis, the Cheq tourist wallet doesn't support these payments yet.

At the moment this feature is still not available. Our team is working on it, and we will keep you updated once ATM withdrawals are live.

If you need to withdraw unutilized funds from your Cheq UPI account, reach out to our customer care team through the help section in our app.

Once your withdrawal request is received, Cheq's team will initiate the process within 24 hours. You can expect to receive the unutilized funds in your source account within 8-10 business days, though the exact timeline may vary depending on your bank and other factors.

We offer a no-questions-asked refund policy. Email contactus@terrafin.tech with your refund request and reason, and the amount will be credited back to your source account within 10-12 days.

Send an email to contactus@terrafin.tech with your old and new numbers and the reason for the change. Your request will be processed within 7 days.
